New compost bins brought to Island
environmentally conscious.
It has arranged for residents to pre-order and purchase special Earth Machine Compost bins in hopes this will cut down on the amount of weekly garbage.
The bins, which cost $55 each, are made of recycled plastic which resists ultra-violent light and have rodent resistant bases.
Composting is a natural biological process which converts organic material such as vegetable scraps and grass cuttings into humus or compost.
The humus can then be used to enrich soil, making it ideal for flowering plants and vegetables.
Anyone wishing to pre-order one of the composters can contact Ms Jane Brett on 297-7856 before the July 15 deadline.
