tragedy in the Azores and Haiti.

The Medjugorje Peace Plan Group want a container of non-perishable food to send to Sao Miguel in the Azores after the Island was hit by severe winter storms.

And a container of food and clothing for crisis-hit Haiti is scheduled to leave the Island on January 18. The group now have enough clothes and desperately need food -- again non-perishable -- to fill the container up.

A food drop will take place at St. Patrick's Church Hall in Smith's on January 15, 16 and 17 between 5.30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Azores-bound container, carrying food only, will also be open at the group's headquarters at the old US Navy base in St. George's from 10 a.m. on January 18.

A container of food and clothing is scheduled to be sent off to Haiti on February 3.

A spokesperson for the group also appealed for people donating clothing for future containers to mark bags and boxes to identify whether the clothes are for men, women or children.

And they asked for only clothes in reasonable condition to be donated, as volunteers have in the past had to sort the clothes to identify articles in too poor a condition to send overseas.
