The Bermuda Stock Exchange Index closed down four points last week as losers outnumbered gainers four to three in active trading.

Of the four stocks to fall, two issues lost $2.25 -- three gained and one closed unchanged.

Telco closed down $2.25 at $36 on volume of 3,322 while Kentucky Fried Chicken dropped $2.25 to close at $25 on volume of 337.

Staples closed down 25 cents at $9.125 on volume of 2,700 while Bank of Bermuda closed down 25 cents at $18.50 on volume of 1,841.

Bank of Butterfield gained 25 cents to close at $11.75 on volume of 21,594 while BF&M gained 25 cents to close at $6.75 on volume of 14,901.

Belco closed up 12.5 cents at $20 on volume of 10,800.

Belco 7% 1st. mort. nts. 1998 closed unchanged at 101 on volume of 5,000 units with a value of $5,050.

Share volume was 55,495 with a share value of $757,018.25.

Total value of trading was $762,068.

The index closed down 4.07 points or .39 percent at 1,038.53.
