And other persons have been arrested in connection with the same case and are likely to come before the courts in the future, Police confirmed yesterday.

It is understood that Crockwell was arrested over the weekend as a result of an major Police investigation launched last week.

In a prepared statement, Police Commissioner Mr. Colin Coxall said: "As a result of an intensive Police operation over the holiday weekend into the disappearance of a large quantity of heroin, a local man will be appearing in plea court today to be formally charged with the offences relating to the missing drug.

Other persons, he said, will be appearing before the courts in the future.

The 328 grams of heroin, with a street value of $593,750, had been stored in the safe at the Supreme Court since the conclusion of a trial on May 12.

But on Thursday, drug squad officers discovered the heroin was missing when they called to collect and destroy it.

Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Michael Mylod, formed a task force with officers from C.I.D. and Narcotics to investigate the drug's disappearance.

It is believed that the heroin had been kept at the court since the end of a trial involving Jeffrey Kwasi Osborne, 29, of Accra, Ghana.
