principal posts at the new middle and senior secondary schools.

A Press conference has been scheduled for 3.30 p.m. at the Cabinet Office.

Rumours that two men -- education officer for social studies John Walsh and Berkeley Institute first assistant Carlos Symonds -- were favoured for the posts at Cedarbridge Academy have been circulating since a dispute between the Education Department and the Bermuda Union of Teachers over the department's hiring practices ended last year.

Mr. Walsh has been working in the Cedarbridge Academy offices at Melbourne House and Mr. Symonds helped to interview applicants for Cedarbridge Academy last year.

Sources said they expected a woman to be the third deputy to balance the equation.

Cedarbridge Academy principal Ernest Payette earlier told The Royal Gazette the school's board of governors had recommended three of the six candidates interviewed by the Public Service Commission.

"They are all very capable people and can manage what needs to be done,'' he said. "But because it (running a senior secondary school) is so new to them, they will also have to learn along the way.'' But yesterday Mr. Payette said he did not know who had been chosen.
