The group of companies' management was furious when its disastrous loss of $2.8 million for 1991 was leaked to The Royal Gazette last year.

To avoid the same thing happening again, management fired off letters to all of Purvis' 80-odd shareholders asking them not to release the 1992 results.

The tactics seem to have worked. When The Royal Gazette attempted to find out the firm's results, several stockholders said they were heeding the warning and would not release any details.

One shareholder, however, did admit that the company had again made a loss, although the person said it was not as large as 1991's record deficit.

That would not be surprising since Purvis has shed almost all of its business since then and has cut its work force, which once numbered 140, by at least 50 percent.

Its core business, Purvis Distributors, was bought by Mr. Ward Young's BGA and part of Office Equipment was also sold and the rest is widely believed to be up for sale, although management are not admitting it.

According to one source, Security and Communication Systems, a subsidiary of Purvis, is only being kept running to fulfil a Government contract.

Purvis' management said the company's results were not being released because it was a private enterprise.
