a taxi driver to recover her handbag with most of its contents intact on Sunday night.

Police arrested the 30-year-old Pembroke man in connection with a theft from a female taxi driver on Parson's Road, Pembroke.

The victim said she took the suspect to an area near Glebe Road after picking him up shortly before 6 p.m. but when they reached their destination, the man snatched her bag and fled on foot.

She told Police she chased him and fell down, bruising her head and face. It was at this point that a member of the public chased the man and caught the alleged thief.

ROLES TO PLAY AT BIFF MPC Roles to play at BIFF Those interested in participating in the Bermuda International Film Festival can join the ranks of volunteers in a variety of capacities.

Roles include staffing the BIFF booth at Rock Island Coffee, assisting with the administration of the festival or serving as theatre managers.

BIFF runs from April 20-26 at Liberty and Little Theatres. Forty-nine films from 20 countries will be screened.

DELIVERY MAN ROBBED CRM Delivery man robbed A pizza delivery man was robbed at a stop sign.

The complainant said he was travelling up Store Hill in Smith's Parish toward Middle Road at 3 p.m. when a male approached him on another cycle asking for change.

The victim told Police the thief then snatched a money pouch from his waist and rode off.

SHED BURNS DOWN FIR Shed burns down Three fires and a flooding kept firefighters busy this weekend, but little damage and no injuries were reported.

On Saturday morning, firefighters from Port Royal responded to flooding at Riviera Estate, Southampton.

That evening, a small stone structure was reported ablaze in Somerset. The 15-foot by 15-foot shed-like structure was not a residence but someone was occupying the location.

Police subsequently arrested a 53-year-old man at the scene and took him to Somerset Police station, where the man is assisting with inquires.

The fire caused approximately $1,000 worth of damage.

Firefighters extinguished two brush fires, one at King's Point, Sandys and the other near the St. George's Cemetery on Saturday.

GANG ATTACKS YOUTH CRM Gang attacks youth A 15-year-old Warwick youth reported he was set upon by three males near Khyber Pass at about 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The assault took place on Smith's Avenue and the youth suffered minor injuries to his foot and hand.

BREAK-IN PROBE ARREST CRM Break-in probe arrest A 53-year-old Pembroke man was arrested on Friday following an overnight break-in at a property in Reid Street where three lamps were stolen.

In a separate incident, a telephone was ripped from the wall of Magnum Powerforce Gymn on Front Street on Thursday and the money inside was stolen.

MAN DENIES ASSAULT CRM Man denies assault A man charged with using offensive words in a public place denounced the Police summary of facts of the incident as "the most lies I have ever heard''.

Anthony Dyer, 35, denied the charge, alleged to have occurred at the Anchorage Lounge in North Shore, Devonshire, when he appeared in Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The court heard Police went to the night spot after being told there was a disturbance there.

Mr. Dyer allegedly told the officers "you guys came for me but you are going to need f***ing back-up''.

He was also alleged to have hurled a string of abuse at others on the premises. The trial was set for June 5.
