Police arrest men over attacks on women
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 25: Police are investigating two attacks on two women and an incident where a man was beaten and his gold chain snatched.
At about 5.40pm yesterday, a 39-year-old woman was attacked by a man in the lobby area of a hotel on Rosemont Avenue, in Pembroke.
A Police spokesman said: “The man grabbed the victim's handbag and pulled her to the ground in the process, after which he fled the area on a motorcycle with the handbag and contents.
“She sustained bruising and other injuries to her face and body as a result of the fall. This matter was reported to Police who attended the scene immediately and commenced an investigation.
“As a result of Police enquiries, a 27-year-old man was arrested about 90 minutes later in the St. Monica's area in Pembroke in connection with this offence. When the suspect was searched, he was found in possession of property which was reported stolen in two other unrelated complaints of stealing which occurred earlier in the day in the City of Hamilton. He remains in Police custody and is expected to make a court appearance in the very near future.”
Today at about 3.46am police came across a disturbance on Palemtto Road, in Devonshire, when they saw a man standing over a woman who was laying in the street.
“The officers noted injuries to the woman's face. The man was arrested for assaulting the woman, and when searched, he was found in possession of a significant quantity of cash which the woman alleged was stolen from her during a robbery.
“He was also found in possession of what is believed to be a significant quantity of illegal drugs. He remains in custody while further enquiries are conducted in the matter,” said the spokesman.
Yesterday, at about 9.30pm police were called to the Ice Queen restaurant, in Paget.
The spokesman said: “It appears that a member of staff was accosted by two men who threw punches at him. The suspects then turned their attention to another customer, and snatched a gold chain from the customer's neck before fleeing in a motor car.
“Police enquiries led to the arrest of three men at a bar in Warwick about 30 minutes later. While the suspects were being arrested, one of them became very violent, kicking out one of the rear view mirrors on the Police vehicle. That suspect also spat on the officers while en route to the Hamilton Police Station. Enquiries are continuing into that matter and all three suspects remain in custody.”
