A camp spokeswoman -- who asked not to be named -- said yesterday that the buildings they were operating in at Sandys Secondary School leaked and were insufficient to meet their demands.

She said: "The staff up here are very upset with what we have to work with.'' Other problems include: No art rooms; and Just three classrooms for the 80 children at the seven-week camp.

She said the camp -- for children up to the age of ten -- was normally held at Somerset Primary School but could not be run there this year because it was being renovated.

But she asked why the camp had not been moved to another primary school with proper facilities.

Youth and Sports Director Brenton Roberts said he had been in contact with school officials at Sandys Secondary and was trying to solve the problems.

This included providing sufficient classrooms, he added.

West End Primary School was also being renovated this summer, he continued, so it could not be used for the camp and Sandys Secondary school was the only facility which could be secured.

Mr. Roberts said he had been assured by the officials he had spoken to that the camp would be accommodated and would continue to negotiate until an agreement was reached.
