Dr. Tucker is Labour Day speaker

Tucker, will be the guest speaker at Monday's fun-packed Labour Day extravaganza.

Dr. Tucker was the highest ranking black woman in state government in the `70s as Secretary of State in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

She was also the National Federation of Democratic Women's first black president, and founded the National Political Congress of Black Women.

Once rated among the 100 most influential black Americans, she will join a host of VIP speakers at Bernard's Park.

Others include the Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan, and Progressive Labour Party leader Mr. Frederick Wade.

Afternoon park activities will also include poetry, music, raffles, food stalls, gombeys, majorettes, and a cultural exhibition.

Among the star entertainers will be Susie Harvey Dancers, Dynamic City Rockettes, Phoenix Foundation, Eugene Joell's Band, and Lloyd Simmons.

The Empress Menuhin Dancers, Dance Team, and Stealers Steel Band, will perform as well.

Earlier in the day, festivities will kick off at 9 a.m. with a Co-Op sponsored road race.

The Bermuda Regiment Band will perform at 10.30 a.m., followed shortly by choir singing and a prayer from the Bermuda Ministerial Association.

The traditional big hour-long march from Union Square to Bernard's Park will start at 11.30 a.m.

At 8 p.m. this Saturday at the Southampton Princess the Bermuda Industrial Union will stage its 11th annual banquet in honour of Dr. Barbara Ball.

A PLP member since its formation in 1963, she has been an MP, and is currently chairman of the BIU's finance committee.
