Rosina Topic , a Liberian merchant vessel en route from Lithuania, diverted to Bermuda after contacting Harbour Radio just before 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The 600-foot bulk carrier, which was passing about 30 miles north of Bermuda remained offshore while a search and rescue boat picked up the injured man and brought him to St. George's just after 8 p.m. A waiting ambulance then took him to hospital, a spokesman from Habour Radio said.

He added he believed the man worked as a mechanic on board the ship and had sustained a deep cut during rough seas.
