targeted $5 million from donations from local and exempted firms and individuals.

Jane Spurling, chairman of the BHA's campaign, said the majority of the targeted money raised -- some $3.5 million -- is earmarked for the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

The group launched its fundraising effort at a recent Government House function for donors and other invited guests.

Mrs. Spurling said her organisation will continue to solicit the business community for donations.

The BHA is composed of six of Bermuda's health care charities.
