pay for maintenance of the Church of England's home in Bermuda.

Citing the dwindling charity dollar being divided up among various organisations and the difficulty in convincing donors to support repairs, the Vestry intends to move church headquarters into one building.

They intend to build the five story building with underground parking on church property between the Swan Building and the Cedar House offices of law firm Appleby Spurling and Kempe.

Plans for the 73,000 square foot office building facing Victoria Street were filed with the Development Applications Board.

An existing building known as the Residence will be demolished to make way, as will a large natural hill on Victoria Street.

Architects Cooper and Gardner have designed the building and will coordinate the project which will see an addition of 62,085 square feet to the amount of office space in the City of Hamilton and space for 26 cars in the 11,101 square foot parking area.

Building Development Project chairman Reg Rawlins said yesterday that the Vestry came to the decision after years of debate.

Mr. Rawlins said the Cathedral needed new wiring; a new roof; to refurbish its organ; and constant painting, tile work and cleaning.
