escape Police last month was sentenced in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis sentenced Dennis Leroy Lambert, 20, of Southampton, to serve 24 months of probation and attend any counselling deemed necessary by Probation Services.

Lambert pleaded guilty to escaping custody in January as Police took him back to Hamilton Police Station after a morning court appearance.

His bid for freedom occured when he was able to slip out of handcuffs chaining him to another prisoner and run down Parliament Street.

Several Police officers cornered him in a car park near the harbour and he jumped into the water but soon afterward returned to the wharf into the waiting arms of Police.
