hospital treatment after reportedly being involved in an accident.

While confirming that the eight-time women's champion of the Marathon Derby was admitted to the Emergency Department of the King Edward VII Hospital, a spokesperson could not give any further information other than she was released after the brief visit.

Police also were last night unable to shed any light on the matter and it isn't known if she was hurt while on a training run in preparation for Monday's annual Derby or while riding a cycle.

Mewett's surprise entry in the marathon for this year was only revealed last week. She missed last year after reportedly returning to her home in New Zealand to live. It is unknown if yesterday's incident will prevent her from making the starting line. She could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Also questionable is one of the main contenders in the men's field, Jay Donawa.

Donawa, who is back on the Island after spending the spring in the US, is currently training for the CAC Games in Puerto Rico next month and national team coach Gerry Swan said Tuesday it was uncertain whether he would compete.

"The main goal is for him to be in the best possible shape (for the CAC Games),'' Swan said. "We don't want to do anything to detract from that.'' Attempts to reach Donawa were unsuccessful.
