Be wary when taking cheques
Created: Dec 21, 1995 10:00 AM
When accepting a cheque, always ask the customer to provide some form of photographic identification.
Do not accept a cheque which has been signed prior to presentation. In such cases, ask the customer to sign the cheque again, in your presence.
Compare the details -- do the written and numerical amounts agree? Do not accept, (1) posted dated, (2) out dated or (3) third party cheques.
Only accept cheques for the exact amount of the purchase.
Pay particular attention to details when accepting cheques this weekend, and don't allow customers to rush you.
