charge of the Bermuda Select team that will play visiting Puerto Rico next month.

With director of coaching Clyde Best involved with the senior national team, who also are matched up against the touring Puerto Rican side, Calderon has been chosen by Best to take over the helm of the youngsters.

The Puerto Rico tour, hosted by Police Recreation Club, will be from December 17-24.

The Select squad has already been chosen but according to Best, the Bermuda Football Association will wait until overseas college students return home for Christmas before making it public. But he did stress that the nucleus will be from players in the under-23 age group.

The appointment of Calderon is no real surprise as he has long been an active and respected BFA staff coach.

Best said that he was comfortable with giving Calderon the post, pointing out that they have already discussed various game strategies.

"He will go out and do a job for me. We've talked and we are on the same wave length as far as evaluating how the game should be played and what system we want to play, so we have a good understanding,'' said Best.

Puerto Rico play the senior national squad on December 19 and the Selects on December 23. Venues have yet to be announced but they will probably be at National Stadium and Somerset Cricket Club, respectively.

The matches are seen as vital warm-ups for the Shell Cup tournament next April in the Cayman Islands.
