The seven-year-old alleged victim in a sexual exploitation case completed giving evidence in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

A 31-year-old St. George's man is accused on fondling the girl on three separate occasions -- on his bike, in his car and in his home.

The girl testified last week that the man, who speaks little English, fondled her and licked her "private parts''.

The accused man is accompanied in court by a translator in order to follow the proceedings.

Yesterday, the girl also claimed to have watched "naughty'' videos in the man's home during the incidents in question.

Defence attorney Liz Christopher continued her cross-examination yesterday -- but only after her application to have the courtroom cleared was granted.

Ms Christopher told the court that she was making the application on behalf of her client because the girl's family and supporters in the court were communicating with her while she was testifying.

When asked by Magistrate Justin Williams what she meant, Ms Christopher replied "making hand signals of approval and disapproval''.

Mr. Williams said that he had only seen one wave from the girl's supporters and that had been dealt with. Crown counsel Juan Wolffe objected to the court being cleared..

"We're not alleging that the people in the gallery were mouthing evidence or were coaxing her to give certain answers or not to give certain answers or anything of that nature,'' he said. And Mr. Wolffe suggested that Ms Christopher was "not happy with the way (the girl) was giving evidence''.

However, Mr. Williams elected to clear the court for the remainder of the girl's evidence, allowing only one support person to sit with her, counsel and the press to remain in the room.

The girl appeared in court with a puppet which she played with during occasional legal arguments between Mr. Williams and counsel.

Ms Christopher had the girl tell the court which videos she had watched at the accused's house. The girl said she watched cartoons, Barney, video's belonging to the accused's children and videos belonging to the accused.

"What are (the accused's) videos,'' asked Ms Christopher. "Um, naughty,'' the girl replied.

Ms Christopher then asked the girl whether she had watched "naughty'' videos at her own house but the girl said she had not.

Upon further questioning the girl said the fondling incidents had occurred in the summer and that no one else had been in the house with her and the accused when the alleged incidents happened.

The girl also said that when the alleged licking incident occurred at the accused's house, she had some of her clothes on but not her underwear.

"Is it right or wrong that when ever you go to (the accused's wife's) house (the accused's wife) is always there,'' asked Ms Christopher. "Yes,'' replied the girl.

Ms Christopher then ended her cross examination.

The only other witness the court heard from on yesterday was Police Sgt. Mike Chlebek. The public were allowed back into the courtroom once the girl completed her statements.

Sgt. Chlebek testified that he had responded to a complaint of sexual assault against the accused.

He said that he attended the home of the accused with two other Police officers and a Spanish translator. In addition to arresting the accused, the officers searched the man's home.

On cross-examination, Ms Christopher established that the translator who accompanied the Police to the house now works with the alleged victim's family.

Sgt. Chlebek said that, to his knowledge, at the time the translator assisted Police, she was not employed by the girl's family.

Upon questioning, Sgt. Chlebek said that the accused man was arrested and handcuffed in the presence of his children.

Ms Christopher asked whether Police had found any pornographic videos or books when they searched the man's home. Sgt. Chlebek said no such items had been found.

Ms Christopher also asked Sgt. Chlebek whether Police had investigated any of the other people known to the girl in relation to the alleged offence.

"The only allegations made in this respect were against (the accused) and no one else,'' he said.

Ms Christopher asked whether Police had found anything of an evidential nature when searching the accused's home. "No,'' replied Sgt. Chlebek.

The trial continues today.
