And unless Bermudians are vigilant we will all soon become "prisoners in our own homes''.

Opposition Senate Leader Milton Scott made these observations during the Motion to Adjourn in the Upper House during the first day of business since the easter break.

Sen. Scott said one the most disturbing trends about the latest violent incidents is that so few reach the Press because they are largely unreported.

Moreover, he said the frequency of these incidents were the grounds for "grave concern'' on the part of parents, teachers and persons in the community generally.

Fellow PLP Senator Terry Lister said he hoped the list of recommendations from the "Blow the Whistle on Violence'' conference would be acted upon.

"I am appealing to all of us to do our part to help to educate, train and encourage people to talk about their feelings and not to resort to violence,'' he said.

And Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) said that one school had an arson attempt made on its premises and it should concern everyone why a student would want to do something like that to an institution of learning.

Sen. Butterfield said she had made a point recently of clipping out the weekly list of stolen cycles from The Royal Gazette .

In the last three weeks, some 78 cycles were reported stolen and only 16 were recovered, she said.

Sen. Yvette Swan (UBP) suggested that the best method of coping with the violence so prevalent in the community, was for adults to set good examples for younger people.
