Gerald Eugene Smith, 38, of Curving Avenue, Pembroke, was accused of attempting to snatch the purse of tourist Leah Haffta on May 12.

The case was adjourned until May 30 in Plea Court. Crown counsel Graveney Bannister objected to bail, and the defendant was remanded into custody. This is an indictable offence which will be tried in the Supreme Court.

JURY VERDICT EXPECTED TODAY IN GOLF CADDY ASSAULT TRIAL CTS Jury verdict expected today in golf caddy assault trial The jury is expected to decide today the fate of 32-year-old Keith Angelo Trott, accused of assaulting an older golf caddy with a knife.

In court earlier, Trott's testimony appeared at odds with previous Police reports. Trott stands accused of assaulting Mid Ocean golf caddy Kenneth Eric Brangman last October.

Prosecution witness Det. Garic Swainson told defence counsel Larry Mussenden that from the time that he became involved with the case Trott was not photographed by a Police photographer.

He also said that at no time did Trott say anything about being hit in the back with a golf club.

Trott told the court that he had gone to the Mid Ocean Golf Club on October 20 because "Kenny Brangman told me to come and get the money from him that he owed me''.

He told the court that he went over to Mr. Brangman on the number two fairway at Mid Ocean and tapped him on the shoulder. The court heard that Mr. Brangman walked away, so Trott tapped him again.

At that point, Trott said, the two golf bags that Mr. Brangman was carrying fell from his shoulder and pulled him to the ground. He said that Mr. Brangman then pulled out a golf club.

As he was reaching into his pocket for a knife, Trott said Mr. Brangman hit him in the back with the golf club. Trott flipped the knife blade open, at which point the tourists and caddy Morris Wainwright intervened.
