Power outage leaves businesses in the dark
power outage hit parts of the city yesterday afternoon.
And even Bermuda Electric Light Company's offices were plunged into darkness after a switch on the company's main distribution board tripped around 3.15 p.m..
The power cut, which lasted about 45 minutes, affected buildings on Serpentine Road, Par-la-Ville Road, Pitts Bay Road, Spanish Point, Fairylands and the surrounding area.
Although Belco engineers were able to repair the damage within the hour, complications meant that Spanish Point residents went without power until the early evening.
Belco spokeswoman Robin McPhee said: "One of the switches on the main distribution board in the power house tripped because of a fault.
"That then led to another six switches tripping on overload.'' The cause of the incident is still being investigated by Belco engineers.
