The open trench caused traffic back-ups on Monday morning at Frank's Bay after the Bermuda Telephone Company started working because it believed it had "verbal'' permission.

A BTC spokesman said the company believed it had verbal permission.

Yesterday a Government spokesman said the "mix-up'' was resolved in a Tuesday meeting.

"It was a case of people moving too quickly,'' he said, adding there "was no such thing as verbal permission''. BTC completed work on the Southampton trench by Tuesday evening.
