Gymnasts off to US

Bermuda Gymnastics Association are sending a team of 13 girls to compete in the US Southeast Regional meet.

The girls, aged 10 to 16, leave today for Raleigh, North Carolina, where they'll compete against teams from the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Alabama and Virginia.

The Bermuda girls -- Alexandra Froncioni, Rowan Hallett, Maria Darby, Nichole Shaw, Jameelah Saltus, Sarah Cox, Kristin Shrubb, Latoya Brunson, Jackie Mayor, Christina White, Sasha Christensen, Leila Wadson and Laura Murphy -- qualifed for the regionals at the inaugural Bermuda Triangle Challenge Meet in February.

Nine of them will compete in the developmental optional division and four in the intermediate optionals. Only the top gymnasts from each level will advance to the US Nationals next month in Orlando, Florida.

The team are coming off a strong showing at the Pan American Invitational in Houston, Texas, where they finished seventh out of 15 national squads.
