not debating a report carried out over five years ago on the hospital.

Mr. Oughton was speaking on the Health Budget and said that the hospital had to be commended for the work that it did well, but raised concerns over escalating costs. He questioned why there had been an increase in funding to the hospital without any mention of cost-cutting.

He said that the cost of healthcare was rising around the world, and in Bermuda it outpaced inflation by a multiple of four.

Mr. Oughton mentioned a health care review that was not debated for two and a half years by the former Government, and has languished under the current Government for another two and a half years.

He said that most of the recommendations in the report were how to reduce the cost of healthcare. He added that the report had recommended the establishment of a permanent Bermuda Health Council, but it had been continuously rejected by Government and the hospital board.
