Thirty-year-old Darren Bulford was led from the courts after it was revealed he had numerous traffic offences, some dating back to 1997.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Bulford $400 on new charges of speeding and driving without a license before turning his attention to Bulford's outstanding fines.

Bulford told the court he could pay $500, but the rest would have to be paid at some other time.

Mr. Warner said: "I want some kind of firm and structured way to pay on this.'' As a payment schedule was being worked out, Bulford appeared nervous and upset and sucked his teeth saying: "I don't know so -- you're going to send me to jail anyway.'' They settled on payments ending later this week before more files were handed to Mr. Warner. The Senior Magistrate looked over the files and sighed.

"You're going to have to pay these today.'' he said. The files were outstanding fines dating back to 1997, $1650 in total.

Bulford was taken away by Police.
