in a Pembroke man receiving a suspended prison sentence this week.

Lionel Frates, 48, of the Salvation Army Shelter in Pembroke, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to stealing.

Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told the court that Frates had admitted to stealing the clothes from outside the Smuggler's Reef on Front Street on July 25.

Frates also admitted selling the clothes to another man for $20 which he used to buy alcohol, Sgt. Dale said.

Acting Magistrate the Wor. Kenneth Brown said Frates had a "terrible record'' but there was "nothing serious'' on it before passing sentence.

He sentenced Frates to three months in prison, suspended for a year.
