Bermuda Islander set to be replaced
existing and potential Bermuda International Shipping Limited customers.
Meyer Agencies Limited -- the agents for BISL -- announced that this new ship was also called the Bermuda Islander but that is where any similarities end.
The new ship will be larger and faster with a service speed of 13.5 knots when fully loaded and the capacity for 150 loaded 20-foot containers.
The new Bermuda Islander was launched on August 26 at the Tille Scheepsbouw Kootsterville B.V. shipyard in Friesland, northern Holland by Mrs. Patricia Hayward, the wife of the Mayor of St. Georges and Meyer Agencies Limited President the Wor. J. Henry Hayward.
The trials to finish and fine-tune the vessel were due to take another four or five weeks and she was expected to be handed over to BISL on October 21 in the Dutch port of Delfzijl.
The new Bermuda Islander was due to arrive in Salem, New Jersey in late October and will be put into service immediately.
