The blunder was made by Delta Air Lines, which flies to the Island twice a day.

"I can't believe they didn't catch that,'' gasped a spokesman at company headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, when told of the mistake.

"It's obviously quite wrong,'' he added. "I can assure you it will not happen again.

"It's going to be corrected as soon as possible, most definitely. We take things like this quite seriously.'' Meanwhile, at Delta's Bermuda office, local manager Ms Jackie Zuill had already been alerted to the error by a customer's complaint.

"We've changed the format of the timetable and I guess it wasn't proof read by Delta before it was finalised,'' she said.

"We were aware of it and it's being corrected before the next issue, due out in December.

"It's a mistake and it will be corrected. We're very sorry.'' The error is in a section of the booklet listing codes used by the world's airports.

After "BCN - Barcelona, SPAIN'' is the entry "BDA - Bermuda, BAHAMAS''.
