after "numerous and persistent'' offences.

Mitchell Trott, of North Shore Road, Hamilton, faces charges of failing to attend, and disobeying a direct order to attend regimental camp on January 30.

Crown counsel Larry Mussenden told the court because Trott was such a persistent offender the matter was serious enough to be brought to Magistrates' Court.

Trott is accused of committing 14 offences, including disobedience, absence without leave, and conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline. But Trott denied the seriousness of the charges and was surprised at the number of offences charged against him.

"It's not like I missed a long time,'' he said. "I haven't missed six months straight.'' Magistrate Arthur Hodgson questioned Trott's understanding of his commitment.

Mr. Hodgson granted Trott bail in the sum of $800 and ordered a social inquiry report on him.
