Shannon Harvey, 31, of Malabar Close, Sandys appeared recently before Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King and explained that when he drinks alcohol he turns into a different person.

Crown Prosecutor Wayne Caines told the court that the complainant in the matter was the owner of the taxi, who left it parked on Malabar Road in Sandys at about 1.50 a.m. on Sunday night when he went into a club.

He said when he came out at 2.45 a.m. his cab was gone.

The owner quickly phoned Police and Radio Cabs, and told them to be on the lookout for the taxi, which was subsequently spotted at Barnes Corner and later at Burnt House Hill when it was seen heading at high speed toward Crow Lane.

Police caught up with the cab and saw it cross the central yellow line on East Broadway several times on its way toward town.

The court heard Harvey overtook several vehicles, almost causing several collisions, and narrowly missed hitting some pedestrians outside Club 40 on Front Street.

Harvey was eventually stopped on Parliament Street where he was arrested for removing the vehicle.

Police noticed that Harvey smelt strongly of alcohol and that he was very unsteady on his feet, and when arrested, he told officers, "I've done a bad thing.''
