Robert Grant, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge of driving while impaired in the plea session of Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Crown counsel Charlene Scott told the court that Grant was seen riding along Crow Lane in the late evening of December 8.

The court heard that Police saw Grant swaying from side to side and nearly collide with another vehicle.

Grant turned onto Trimingham Hill where he was stopped by Police.

He told Police, "I had three pints of Fosters.'' Officers said his breath smelled of alcohol.

At Hamilton Police Station, Grant produced two breath samples which both detected alcohol levels more than double the legal limit.

When asked whether he had anything to say in court Grant replied: "I acted stupidly, selfishly, and very irresponsibly and I'm very sorry.''
