Just Roses has moved into a 750-square-foot site at Paget Plaza where it is operating as a fully-fledged florist.

Although the store will sell several types of flowers, it will specialise in selling roses at discount prices.

A dozen long-stemmed roses will cost $39.95 compared with prices at most other local florists of between $60 and $80.

Just Roses boss Miss Julie Mayor said: "We can sell them so cheaply because we have a good supplier, good sources and we're not greedy.'' She added: "Not only are we the cheapest place in Bermuda to buy roses but our roses also last longer, at least a week to ten days and sometimes longer in winter.

"We import them from the United States but they originate from South America.

They are excellent quality.'' Just Roses has become highly visible in Hamilton's bars and restaurants since it formed a year ago through its European-style method of selling flowers.

Two girls carrying a cluster of long-stemmed roses go out during evenings and target romantic couples who may be eating a meal or having a drink. The specially-packaged roses cost $6 each.

"This has proved very popular with the public,'' said Miss Mayor. "We're looking for more evening staff to expand this part of the business.'' She decided to move into a permanent site after the previous occupant, The Hobby Shop, closed down last month and its owner, Mr. Bill Burgess, retired to the Caribbean.

"We will offer full florist services,'' she said. "That will include a continuation of our Island wide delivery service.'' The only other full-time staff member apart from Miss Mayor is Mrs. Susan Sousa.
