Island teen stable in Canadian hospital
hospital following a car accident on Sunday.
Erika and her twin sister Nina were celebrating their 16th birthday on Sunday when the car they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision.
The crash happened near Halifax, Nova Scotia, where the girls -- who are the children of former Royal Bermuda Yacht Club commodore John Thompson and Lei-Valli Thompson -- are at boarding school.
Last night a family friend said Erika was still in the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, recovering from a badly broken back, but that she could move all her limbs.
Nina was treated at hospital but released on Sunday.
Surgeons are currently assessing Erika's condition before making a decision on whether to operate on her.
The friend said the sisters had been a great support to each other and had been heartened by the messages of support from Bermuda, where the girls previously attended school.
