Mrs. Sue Davis, of the Consumer Affairs Bureau, has some advice for you.

Speaking at the Hamilton Lions Club weekly luncheon yesterday she outlined some ways to make the most of shopping during this hectic time of the year.

Mrs. Davis pointed out that many people end up in serious debt after the holidays.

"Make a list of how much you can spend this Christmas based on how much you have saved. If you don't know what to buy cruise, see what's available and what is suitable.'' She said buyers should not wait until December 23 to do their shopping, and advised them to keep the receiver's age, interests and abilities in mind.

"It's better to shop in the morning or try to get time off work during the afternoons instead of waiting until Friday night or lunchtimes.

"Do comparison shopping. Don't just look at prices examine its quality, these vary considerably.'' Ms. Davis said that shoppers should familiarise themselves with the return polices and guarantees offered on various products.

"We embarked on a project with the Chamber of Commerce asking them to post their return policy. We are not trying to tell them what their policy should be. We only want them to tell the public what it is.'' CLAMPDOWN HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL GVT The Department of Marine and Ports yesterday announced that the recent clampdown on illegal moorings has been successful.

Mr. Ron Ross, director of Marine and Ports, said official stickers have been put on illegal moorings. Owners were notified through letters and phone calls.

More than 400 boat owners have come in to register their moorings.

Mr. Ross urges the remaining 120 owners of illegal moorings to remove them, because steps will be taken to remove all illegal moorings.

Any person unable to go into the department are asked to contact a Marine Services Officer at 295-6575.
