Mr. John Marriott, chairman of Marriott International flew to the Island yesterday and is expected to issue a statement this afternoon. Details of the announcement were being kept a close secret last night.
Mr. Marriott has twice threatened to close the Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort following poor financial results and a row over tax relief which hoteliers were demanding from Government.
Last April, a rescue plan centred around golf course improvements was drawn up to save Marriott's from closure as the hotel's chiefs threatened to pull out if they continued to lose money. They said more than $40 million had been lost since the hotel opened in 1986.
