Court yesterday.

Howard Amory, 32, of Trackside Lane pleaded guilty to the offences which occurred outside his mother's home -- where he lives -- on the night of April 11.

Police prosecutor Insp. Kenrick James told the court that plain clothed Police officers -- acting on information they had received -- went to Palmetto Road at 9.20 p.m. that night.

There they saw Amory and two other men standing outside the Fat Man's Cafe, he continued.

Insp. James said the officers asked the men if they had any drugs on them and Amory replied "yes''.

He handed the officers a yellow envelope containing plant material and the officers arrested him.

Insp. James said the officers then searched Amory and found a homemade cigarette which Amory said was a "spliff''.

Amory then dropped a brown paper twist on the ground and tried to kick it away but the officers retrieved it and found it contained four silver foil twists, continued Insp. James.

The material inside the silver twists was later analysed and discovered to be 0.05 grams of diamorphine (heroin) while the plant material in the envelope and the homemade cigarette was found to be a total of 1.45 grams of cannabis.

Amory's lawyer Richard Hector asked Magistrate Edward King to be lenient with his client who was unemployed and had already embarrassed his mother.

Mr. Hector also asked Mr. King to take into account that a small amount of drugs were involved.

Mr. King then fined the man $100 for possession of cannabis and $250 for possession of heroin.
