Linus D'Andrade, a 31-year-old Trinidadian, arrived in Bermuda on board the Norwegian Crown on August 2.

Crown counsel Larry Mussenden told Magistrates' Court Customs officers searched D'Andrade's cabin and found a digital scale in a suitcase.

Mr. Mussenden said narcotics officers analysed the scale and traces of cannabis were found on the scale.

Lawyer Elizabeth Christopher, who was representing D'Andrade, told Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King the scales did not belong to her client.

Ms Christopher said D'Andrade was not a man of great means, and had found the scales outside Bermuda.

Mr. King ordered the scale to be destroyed and D'Andrade to pay the fine.
