Women run for charity
annual PartnerRe Womens 5K Run and Walk.
The event -- the only one on the racing calendar just for women -- raises funds each year for a women's charity. This year the proceeds will go to Fair Havens to help battle female alcohol and drug abuse.
Sponsored by PartnerRe, sanctioned by the BTFA and organised by Mid-Atlantic Athletic Club, the event starts at 9 a.m. from the Botanical Gardens in Paget.
It includes a 3.2K race for girls under 16, followed by a 5K run and walk for women. Both distances also allow for two-member family teams.
This year's supporting sponsors include Strands, C-Travel, Stefanel, The Body Shop, Sportseller, Miles Market and Little Venice Group. Prizes include travel, restaurant, fashion, health and beauty vouchers.
"Thanks to our sponsors, 100 percent of the proceeds go to a cause that helps promote fitness, health, safety and self-esteem,'' says race director Rosemary Jones of MAAC.
Entries -- $15 or $10 for MACC members -- are available from Sportseller, Winners Edge, Pro Shop and Sports R Us. Participants can also enter online via the race website at www.bermuda.bm/partnerre5k and pay on the day.
Late entries, costing $20, will be accepted on race day.
The deadline for entries is tomorrow at 4.30 p.m. and for more information contact 292-6280 or email rose yibl.bm.
