Runners set for Labour Day race
race put on by Swan's Running Club.
The race starts at the Transport Control Department Building on North Street at nine a.m. on Monday.
The race route is: TCD, east on North Street to Union Street where the participants turn south, continuing east on Victoria Street, south on King Street, west on Front Street and west on Pitts Bay Road to St. John's Road and from there to North Shore Road where they will run east to Black Watch Pass.
The runners then go west on Marsh Folly Road, south on Cedar Avenue, East on Victoria Street, North on Union Street and to the finish at Union Square.
At about 9:30 there will be a gathering at Union Square following the road race, prizes will be presented and there will be speeches.
A march by members of the amalgamated unions of Bermuda gets under way from Union Square at 11:30, led by the Bermuda Regiment band, organisers are expected approximately 1,000 people to take part.
The march will go from Union Square, south on Union Street, West on Victoria Street, South on Court Street, West on Front Street, North on Queen Street, East on Church Street, North on Cedar Avenue, East on Marsh Folly Road, South on Dutton Avenue and in to Bernard Park.
In order to facilitate Labour Day celebrations, the Corporation of Hamilton has announced it will close off Union Street between Dundonald and Victoria Streets from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
In addition Police officers will be closing streets or portions of streets, directing traffic, restricting and r authorising parking, as circumstances dictate.
