A Bermuda Electric Electric Light Company team rushed to King Street where the pole was lying across the road, suspended by electric wires.

Power in the Church Street area from Court to King Street was temporarily shut off from 11.30 a.m. for safety reasons as Belco employees removed the pole, said Belco spokesman Ms Linda Smith.

She added the wires supported by the pole would be put under ground this weekend, as part of an ongoing project to bury electric wires in the area between Victoria and Reid Streets and on Church Street between Court and King Streets.

The whole area would continue to be powered by the overhead system until work was completed, she said.
