Bermudian's return fulfils father's dream
A Bermudian minister recently returned to the Island to fulfil his father's dream.
Last weekend Rev. Larry Lowe Jr. took over the pastoral duties at the Richard Allen AME Church in St. George's. His father Rev. Larry Lowe Sr. was the Church's pastor until his death last September.
Rev. Lowe Jr. told The Royal Gazette that it was a honour to be ministering at his father's church.
"It's a great honour,'' he said. "I have the opportunity to complete his dream to build a new church. I consider it a personal challenge to complete his dream.'' Rev. Lowe Jr. said the Church was still raising funds and it would be some time before ground was broken.
And he added that moving back to Bermuda was the best thing to happen to him.
"I'm glad to be back home,'' he said. "It's the best thing to happen to me.'' Rev. Lowe Jr. said his first goal was to tend to the spiritual-strengthening of the church.
"And I want to focus on the family and the youth,'' he said. "I haven't had time to form concrete plans but I would like to get their attention and get them focused. Perhaps set up activities like soccer and cricket.'' For the moment, Rev. Lowe Jr. said he was enjoying the Island's laid back charm after serving at a church in the inner city of Pittsburgh for six months.
"I'm enjoying being back home,'' he revealed. "Life is much slower in Bermuda. I was in the inner city in Pittsburgh before coming home, so I really notice it.'' Rev. Lowe Jr. left Bermuda in 1986 and served in Dayton, Ohio, for ten years and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for six months.
