Mr. Dyer, who had been head of the prison service for 19 years, was honoured for his service at a special farewell reception earlier in the week.

Permanent Secretary for Labour and Home Affairs Robert Horton said a successor had not yet been appointed.

But in the meantime, he said Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Marvin Trott would act as Commissioner.

Mr. Horton said the selection process was currently underway and a new Commissioner would be appointed soon, once the Public Service Commission had made its recommendation.

He thanked Mr. Dyer for his career in the public service.
