Tropical Storm Danny -- the fourth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season -- was reported to be at latitude 40.7 degrees north, longitude 69.9 degrees west and was moving north-northeast at ten knots.

It was about 1,050 kilometres or 600 nautical miles away from the Island and not considered to be a threat, said a Bermuda Weather Service spokesman.

Its closest point of approach to the Island came at 3 a.m. yesterday morning when it passed 496 nautical miles away to the Island's northwest.

The storm, which has killed nine people, formed in the Gulf of Mexico and struck Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas as it moved across the United States becoming a hurricane.
