Celebrations begin today with a double-header of soccer when two inter-company games are scheduled for the Southampton Rangers Oval.

In the first game which begins at 2.30 p.m., B Company will play Training Company while A Company tackle Support Company at 4.30 p.m.

The finals will take place on October 7 at the National Stadium and will be preceded by the loser's final at 1 p.m. and a performance from the Bermuda Regiment band during the intermission.

"We are treating the final like any other top-notch BFA kind of tournament because we have many national team players within the Regiment who will be competing for their company,'' Regiment spokesman Major. Glenn Brangman said.

"This year we are trying to involve the entire community because our soldiers come from that base.

"One of the most important things to realise is that most of our functions are free. This is not a profit-making venture by any means. We just want to encourage everyone to come out and celebrate with us.'' Major Brangman said that on Sunday, October 8 there will be a senior citizens tea party at Warwick Camp from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Regiment band and calypsonian Lance Cpl. Garland Smith will provide the musical entertainment.

All former members of the Bermuda Regiment band are invited to the 30th anniversary reunion at Warwick Camp on October 13 for a cocktail party and a buffet the next day.

The Regiment is also heavily involved in the Tattoo scheduled for November 2-4 at the National Stadium and the event will also be featured as part of the overall anniversary celebrations.

"On Sunday, November 5 we are having a drum-head church service in Victoria Park from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. followed by a march past by the Regiment Band.

"In the event of wet weather we will move to Number one Shed and still have the march past on Front Street.'' Two weeks later on November 18 the Bermuda Regiment is hosting an open house which begins at 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with no admission fee, free popcorn and gifts for the young ones.

All events will culminate on November 24, which is the exact date 30 years ago that the Regiment's colours were presented.

An all ranks colour ball which costs $75 per person will be held at the Marriott Castle Harbour. There are a limited number of tickets available.

"We really want the public to come out and support the functions,'' said Major Brangman. "They are free and we have sent out correspondence to the schools and every other major institution around. We have bent over backwards to provide free prizes and activities for the children. It's going to be a celebration.''
