report on a man who stole methadone from Addiction Services and attacked a worker there.

Tracey Caines, of Cedar Park Road, Devonshire, pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle containing 100 methadone tablets, possessing a controlled drug (methadone), and unlawfully assaulting Addiction Services male nurse Charles Williams.

According to prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant, Caines has been addicted to heroin since he was 16-years-old and was suspended from the drug programme at the time of the September 5 incident.

Sgt. Grant said Caines went to the Drug Addiction Services in Pembroke to get some methadone.

Williams told Caines that he would have to wait six months to get back into the programme which led to an argument.

Sgt. Grant said Caines then grabbed a bottle of methadone tablets, valued at $31.68, and ran away.

Williams chased him and caught him outside of Addiction Services' door where Caines punched him in the face and began kicking him. During the assault, Caines dropped the bottle of methadone.

Sgt. Grant told the court that Caines later turned himself in to Police, telling them: "I was hurting so bad after being dropped from the programme. I needed the pills to ease the pain.'' Sgt. Grant also noted that Williams did not suffer any serious injuries.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report which will be due on October 27 when Caines is expected to return to court.
