a British prison for possessing five grams of heroin.

Forty-three-year-old Mr. George Matthews was arrested at Gatwick Airport by British Customs officers last Saturday.

He was detained as he was about to board a British Airways flight to Bermuda.

Customs officers acted following a tip-off by Bermuda Police.

Mr. Matthews, from Ferry Reach, was found to have swallowed heroin in nine small packets, intending to import it to Bermuda.

He pleaded guilty in a local magistrates' court and was sentenced to seven days in prison.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said yesterday: "Mr. Matthew's is expected to return home to Bermuda over the weekend.''
