team would be available to tour Bermuda next month.

This according to PHC president Leroy Lewis, who yesterday verified earlier reports that the former Red Stripe champions would not be coming to the Island as planned on June 10.

"The Pembroke Hamilton Club regrets to confirm the recent article published in the Mid Ocean Sports column that the Jamaican Select XI which were scheduled to tour between June 9 and June 21, 1994 has been cancelled,'' said a press release signed by Lewis.

"We are made to understand that many of the players were unavailable for this tour and it would not be in the best interest of all concerned to have a touring Jamaican Select XI which could not represent the strength and level of cricket which we have come to respect and expect from that country.'' Lewis said he was baffled as to why their Jamaican connection Maurice Foster had not carried out his promise to bring the side to Bermuda.

Foster, a former Test player and current member of the Jamaican Cricket Board, was supposed to have been negotiating on behalf of the local club.

"It had been agreed in January and everything was supposed to be all go,'' intimated Lewis. "Martin (Lawrence) talked to Foster on Monday and on Wednesday we get a call from Williams saying that he didn't know why Foster didn't tell us then (that the tour was off)...it looks like Maurice Foster gave us a bum steer.'' Still the possibility exists for the Jamaica to come in late July, with Lewis saying that the club "will endeavour to sponsor another cricket tour in the not too distant future''.

Hyderabad Blues of India are also pencilled in for a tour in June, playing four matches starting on the 20th. The opponents for that tour have yet to be confirmed by the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control.
