narcotics squad will be bolstered with the addition of six officers next week.

This will bring the squad up to a total of 20 officers. The parish constable scheme will also reap some benefit because it will receive another six constables.

Police commissioner Colin Coxall identified 83 positions within the Service that are capable of being done by civilians.

Ten posts were funded last year. A further 15 are provided for in the current budget with more expected in the future.

BUSTED TRYING TO SELL DRUGS TO OFFICER CRM Busted trying to sell drugs to officer Police yesterday arrested a man who tried to sell drugs to a plain-clothed officer.

The 47-year-old Sandys Parish man approached the officer who was walking along Front Street shortly 1 a.m.

When the man offered to sell the officer some marijuana, the officer identified himself and arrested the man.

He also found an undisclosed quantity of cannabis on the man.

Police inquiries into the case were continuing.

TEEN VISITORS CAUGHT WITH CANNABIS CTS Teen visitors caught with cannabis A pair of teenage visitors from the cruise ship Meridian left the Island $1,000 poorer yesterday after each was fined $500 for having cannabis.

Kevin Paglione, 18, and George Niebergall, 18, both from New York, were searched by Custom's officers at the ship's ramp in Sandys Parish on the evening of July 17, Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told Magistrates' Court.

Plant material and two hand-rolled cigarettes were found in their possession and both passengers were arrested and taken to Somerset Police Station.

Sgt. Grant said the youths were co-operative with Police and admitted to buying the marijuana in New York City for personal use during their vacation.

Their cabin was later searched and another plastic bag of plant material was found, Sgt. Grant said. In total 6.72 grams of cannabis were confiscated.

"We do not tolerate drugs on our Island,'' Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp told the visitors before imposing the fines. "We do not want tourists like you in Bermuda.'' Ebbin Abdul, 27, of Slippery Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the offence.

Abdul was travelling on a bus along York Street in St. George's and had a dispute with the driver over the fare, Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said.

An officer was called and escorted Abdul off the bus.

But as Abdul was exiting the bus, he cursed at the driver. Sgt. Grant said the officer then arrested Abdul for using offensive words in public.

Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp told Abdul: "No-one wants to listen to your loud mouth, keep your frustrations inside.'' WONAN SENT TO HOSPITAL AFTER DISPUTE CRM Woman sent to hospital after dispute A female hotel worker required hospital treatment after a heated exchange with a fellow employee in Southampton Princess' laundry room.

The woman was allegedly hit over the head with telephone receiver by a male co-worker following an argument around 3.30 p.m. on Thursday.

The woman was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she required several stitches to a wound on her head and nose.

Inquiries into the incident were continuing.
