sorted out its social problems.

That is the view of the Hebrew Israelite Community who believe expectations of different sections of the community are poles apart.

Mission Head Mr. Ahtur Eliyahtsoor Ben Israel said Independence meant different things to blacks and white.

"European descendants and African descendants have two distinctly different visions of what Independence means,'' he said.

"One group desires freedom from the oppression of the past and to get back to their spiritual peace, the other group wants a situation where it can acquire as many material possessions as they would like.

"The second group acts as if the world's resources have no end.'' But before there is any unity the social ills of alcohol and drugs must be removed, insisted Mr. Israel.

He called for a return to family values which could then be extended into the community.
