Dr. Deborah Steinberg, of the Bermuda Biological Station for Research, informed Scots during a lecture on Creatures of the Deep at the Edinburgh International Science Festival that it was unlikely that the Loch Ness monster exists.

"I really wish there was a Nessie -- but I can honestly say I don't believe there is any deep sea monster that we haven't discovered yet,'' she said during her Monday night address.

Dr. Steinberg was not the only local scientist to make a presentation at the Festival, the Biological Stations' Dr. David Malmquist also made an appearance.

Dr. Malmquist spoke on hurricanes and other storms and how they related to global warming, El Nino and population growth.
